High-performance storage batteries help ensure energy independence.

The production of renewable energy has grown rapidly, and energy storage has become a strategic challenge in all European Union countries to ensure energy independence and help stabilize the power grid by balancing production and consumption. The jointly operated venture by Evecon, Corsica Sole and Mirova, managed by the Baltic Storage Platform, consisting of a 400 MWh battery park complex, will help strengthen the stability and resilience of the Baltic countries’ integration with the European grid.

The battery park complex will assist in regulating the grid frequency. In the event of an increase or decrease in grid frequency, the batteries will quickly either store or produce electricity to balance the impact of the change. This technology enables the provision of various regulation services to the system.

The battery park complex, consisting of two independent battery parks, will form one of the largest battery park complex in continental Europe.

What it does?

  • Provides fast power response to instant balancing needs : 0 to 100 % in a matter of seconds
  • Provides energy reserve to deal with renewable power fluctuations
  • Available 24/7
  • Instant equivalent power of 90 000 households
  • The available discharging power could supply more roughly 300 000 microwave ovens
  • The amount of stored energy equals more than 7 millions iPhone batteries

When?

  • Construction started in summer 2024 for first project, and Q2 2025 for second project.
  • First battery park was energised in 2025, Q3. It will come online in 2025, Q4.
  • Batteries will be delivered Q1 2026 the second battery park.
  • Second battery park is planned to be energised in Q1 2026 and online in Q3 2026.

How big?

  • 2 times 100 MW/200 MWh Equiv. 4x the current system in Belgium
  • But reasonable footprint: 25 000 m2 each (3 football fields)

Evecon is a key player in this transition. A recognized renewable energy company with an ambitious development plan in the Baltic States. By the end of 2024, Evecon will have developed, constructed, and have 30 solar farms with a total capacity of 210 MWp fully operational. By the end of 2028, Evecon will have developed 20 wind farms with a total capacity of 1,200 MW.

Construction of the Kiisa battery park

200 MW Kiisa battery park has been energised on October 1st 2025 with commissioning scheduled for end-2025, and the full suite of grid services expected by Q1 2026.

The battery park substation was the first in Estonia to connect to the electricity transmission network using a 330 kV AC underground cable, showcasing both innovation and sustainability in infrastructure development.

Construction of the Aruküla battery park

200 MW Aruküla battery park is currently under construction and is scheduled to enter into operations in Q3. Together with the 200 MW Kiisa battery park it will be the largest battery park complex in Europe to assist in regulating the grid frequency.
